Obituary

Dick Johnson,79, passed away June 11, 2014. Born Richard Allen Johnson, December 31, 1934, in Bellingham, WA. He was one of two children, born to Arthur and Ethel (Apt) Johnson. Dick graduated from Bellingham High School in 1952.
After graduation, he attended Washington State University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He married his high school sweetheart (Marilynn Hoffeditz) in 1954. Together they raised three children. Dick and Marilynn owned and operated Johnson’s Flower Shop for many years.
During his lifetime, Dick’s energy was directed towards many varied organizations. He was a US Army veteran and a Master Mason, member of Whatcom Lodge #151. He also served as a past president of Kulshan Kiwanis, and a member of BPOE Elks Lodge #194. He was a past district director of FTD, past president of Mt. Baker Motorcycle Club, past chairman of Mt. Baker chapter of the American Red Cross, past Commodore of Bellingham Yacht Club, founding father of the Dead Pirate’s Society, member of Wheel & Keel, and a member of the Rotary Club of Bellingham, and a Paul Harris Fellow.
After his retirement from the flower shop, when he wasn’t with his friends at Bellingham Yacht Club, Dick could frequently be seen walking his dog at Zuanich Park and enjoying a cafe mocha afterwards.
Dick is survived by sister Cheri Walsh, children Susan DeGolier (Jim), Bob Johnson (DeDe), and Erik Johnson (Karen). His three grandchildren Aspen DeGolier, Eli Johnson, and Ian Johnson, and his two brothers-in-law Chuck Hoffeditz and Roger Hoffeditz, and his beloved dog Katrina.

Farewell Tribute Information

A graveside inurnment will be held on Monday, July 14 at 11:00am at Bayview Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at Bellingham Yacht Club at Noon. Casual dress is requested by the family. Donations Information

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Washington or the American Cancer Society.
