Obituary
It is with deep sadness we are announcing the passing of our beloved Richard (Rick) John Aubert, (1952-2023), on December 6th. He went peacefully with family in attendance, holding his hands. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Bea and John Aubert, brother Steve Aubert, and Steve’s wife Cindy. Rick is survived by his brother Jamey (Kodi) Aubert, and sisters Gena (Gus) Gustafson, and Sally (Alan) Beard, along with many well-loved nieces and nephews.
Rick was a Sehome Mariner and excelled in sports. He went to State competitions in both track and swimming. He attended W.S.U and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity where he made lifelong friends. Rick received his B.A. from Brooks Photography Institute in Santa Barbara, California. After graduation he did work as a professional photographer. During his life he also worked as a commercial fisherman, as a sales representative at Lummi Fish Co., and Lake Padden Golf Course.
Rick traveled to many countries. He once lived with the primitive Yanomamo native tribe in Venezuela for 6 months on a National Geographic Expedition with renown anthropologist Napoleon Chagnon.
During his life, Rick enjoyed recreational baseball, golfing with friends, and many fishing trips to Canada with family.
He was a very kind, compassionate, and loving man. Rick always looked out for the underdog. His fun sense of humor was a delight to others, including his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Rick will be missed by many.
We would like to thank Rick’s steadfast friends who added so much to his life, and the wonderful support they gave to him in his recent months of declining health.
Rick’s final quote was ” I’ll be looking forward to seeing family and friends in heaven for a good game of scratch golf! ”
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s honor may be sent to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Chicago Ill, or Whatcom Hospice Organization.
A celebration of life will be held in spring. Date to be determined.

I grew up next door to Rick. We played catch, ping pong, walked on stilts. We were neighbors again at WSU. He was always pleasant and friendly. Really a nice guy. I would attend his class reunions when I wasn’t even in his class. I always looked forward to seeing him. Already miss you, Rick.
