Obituary

Richard “Dick” Hansen
11/16/1943 – 5/8/2015

Larger than life…Rock of our family…loved by many…Aluma Dick…Big Dick has left us. Dick Hansen passed away at home on May 8, 2015. He was born on Nov. 16, 1943 in Kirkland, WA to Elvin and Virginia Hansen.
Dick was at his happiest on yearly camping and fishing trips to Ross Lake, drinking Budwisers and listening to North To Alaska on his boat with his wife Debbie, brother Donnie and adoring dog Penny. And, of course going to Seahawks games with his best friend Bill Brassfield.
Dick was proud to have served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a carpenter in Bellingham Local 756 from 1974 until he fully retired in 2009. He worked as a Foreman, General Foreman, and Safety Representative in the scaffolding industry from 1982 until he retired, except for brief periods he spent traveling and camping. He also worked at Western Washington University in their Carpentry Shop for a short time in 2000. Even after his retirement he worked as a Safety Representative for Safway Services, LLC during large turnarounds at BP Cherry Point Refinery. He was Carpenter Local 756 president from 1996 through 1999.
Dick was one of the original craftsmen that formed the scaffold group for Kwikform America, Inc. at Cherry Point Refinery. It was his dedication and work ethic along with a half dozen other people that made union carpenters and laborers so successful in Whatcom and Skagit Counties for more than 30 years. He was admired and respected for his direct and honest approach to dealing with people and in meeting the challenges of our industry.
Dick is survived by wife Debbie Hansen, brother Donnie (Sarah) Hansen, daughters Dana Hansen, Shannon (Boone) Hurey, Stephanie Olson, and son Bo Olson, grandchildren Khalan, Kelty, Makala, Maranda, McKensy, Bre, Josh, TJ, Treston, Buddy, and Lele, 3 great-grand children, and good friends Howard and Kristen Plank.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Safeway Scaffolding Services.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 6, 3-9pm, food served at 4, at Howard and Kristen Plank’s, 5124 Noon Rd.

So sorry for your loss. We are glad you all had many good times together and happy for you that you can and will look back on them. Carpenters Local #756 had a lot of good carpenters as members but sad to say have lost a lot of them. Our thoughts are with you and hope to see you next week. Russ and Hazel Haggen
