Obituary

Rena Marie Erickson passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1st. She was 96 years old and had been a life-long resident of Bellingham. She was born on July 23, 1918 to Conrad and Eli Pedersen at her aunt & uncle’s home on Newell St. Rena had a younger sister, Ellen, and a younger brother Eddie.

She was a member of the last graduating class of Whatcom High School in 1936. She attended the Success Business College. She worked for the Labor Newspaper 3 days a week and she also worked in the office of Bellingham Upholstery.

Rena’s parents were active in the Sons of Norway Lodge and she joined when she was 17. In April of 2006 she was honored for being a member for 70 years. She was presented with a 70 year pin and featured in an article in the Viking newspaper.

On Valentine’s Day in 1941 she got engaged to Dehardt Erickson. They were married on Valentine’s Day in 1942 at the Central Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by Dehardt who died on September 22, 2006.

She is survived by her three children Donna Thompson, Butch and Patsi Erickson, Dan and Diane Erickson; grandchildren Scott Thompson, Kristen Thompson, Heidi Erickson, Eric and Mandy Erickson, Jake and Val Erickson, Lisa Erickson, Nathan and Haley Erickson, Sarah and Roman Rubalcava, Josh and Addie Erickson, Jared and Jessica Erickson, John Erickson; great-grandchildren Brittany and Jake Jenkins, Kate Thompson, Zack Erickson, Ivie Erickson, Jordyn Erickson, Gunnar Erickson, Will Erickson, Abby Erickson, and Little Roman Rubalcava ; sister Ellen Chandler and several nieces and nephews.

Farewell Tribute Information

Services will be held at Moles Farewell Tributes, 2465 Lakeway Dr., Bellingham on Saturday, August 10th at noon. Lunch will follow.

  1. My deepest sympathy to Rena’s family and friends. The scriptures lovingly let us know that if we draw close to God in prayer, “He himself will sustain us”. ( psalms 55:22) So as you think about your dear loved one, may the God of all comfort embrace you and fill your minds with joyful memories. I am truly sorry for your loss.
