Serving on the WWU Athletic Advisory Board I had the privilege to meet Peter. We bacame family friends and we enjoyed the opportunity to visit him at his home in Bull Head City, AZ several years ago. My two girls will always remember that visit, his generous heart and great sense of humor. He spoke proudly of his grandkids and was grateful for the opportunity to rekindle his relationship with Larry. Peter was a man who gave, not loudly, but quietly. He was a mentor to many young men and women and took a genuine interest in them and their future. My daughter always brightened when he would show up at her school and club volleyball games. Peter’s physical heart gave way but his heart for others and the impact he has made on many will be his legacy for years to come.

  2. So many memories.., it’s hard to know where to start. The Lord put us together 15-20 years ago in his Par Yachts Charter business office. From there, because of our common interests, likes and so forth.., we bonded very quickly and soon we were like bothers sharing our private thoughts, feelings, joys, fears, and, of course, Christian beliefs.
I was there for him when needed and he was there for me. ALWAYS.
Our relationship was one of opposites…..his glass was always half full and mine was half empty….lol
Peter loved young people and always had one or two working for him whether he needed them or not. His passion revolved around the concept of mentoring for success.
Western Washington University became one of his main reasons for staying in the area after totally retiring. He generously gave his resources to programs such as volleyball, football(his first love), crew and the performing arts. When I say generous, I really mean generous!!!!!
    Love to family,
    Marty

Sadly, I just learned of Peter’s passing. I would like his family to know how very sorry I am for their loss. I first met Peter in ’03 while selling him Cutco knives, during that meeting he offered me a job right then & there as his Executive Assistant. I had the unique opportunity to be there and learn from him first hand as he started up several different business ventures. Peter showed me so much about the business world, he was the one who first sparked my interest that lead me to get my B.S. in Business Management and become a Business Consultant and Entrepreneur myself. He had many different passions in life, most of which included helping others, his love for his family, his love of fast cars, WWU athletics & the students, and his love of everything business. I worked for Peter for 10 years and have so many memories of working & spending time with him, I don’t think I could pick a favorite. I’m only sorry I wasn’t able to say goodbye and thank him for everything he did for me.

It is with great sadness that I, Fred Stenton, just learned of the passing of my friend Peter Rynders. I will miss him, but shall never forget him.
We knew each other from working at the main gate at Disneyland in the mid 1960s. Pete was always such great fun. His enthusiasm was surely infectious. He was always such great fun to be around. I am so glad that I had the chance to get to know Peter on and after work. I remember a card he gave me in those years from his company “Engineering and Management Search Agency”. I probably still have it in one of my boxes. We kept in touch for a short while after concluding our work years at Disneyland. I was always so uplifted by his enthusiasm for life and work. A few years ago I decided to try to locate Peter and after a “Google” search called his office at the Yacht company he had established in Bellingham, Washington. I asked if this was the same Peter A. Rynders who used to work at the main gate at Disneyland. The person replied with great enthusiasm – oh yes. She then told me Peter always broke into a wide big smile when the subject of Disneyland came up. He (Peter) told this person, Disneyland was the best job he ever had. To second that motion, I also feel that way.!! It was surreal and so special with Walt Disney and his brother Roy Disney regularly being out with his employees at the break area and in the area we worked at the main gate. Pete returned my call and we discussed all that had happened to us in the intervening years. It was really great to hear his voice again after all those years. He sounded just the same – enthusiastic as ever! I feel honored to have known Pete, even if it was for only a couple of years. You never really forget those early years.

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

    Sincerely,

    Fred Stenton

  5. I’m sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. I know Peter was a very giving person, as witnessed by his great support of WWU sports every year during Viking Night. His generosity and support was at the highest level monetarily, but his involvement mentoring young WWU students throughout the year was beyond the norm. I also had the pleasure of having dinner and talking with Peter on occasion while dining at one of his favorite places to eat in Bellingham “New Peking”. The restaurant’s regulars were like a family, and Peter was a member of that group of customer’s that owner’s Sam and Jessica Chang and their family welcomed with open arms. Peter was an exceptional person, with a huge heart, and compassionate sole that truly looked out for others betterment before all else. His legacy will be remembered by many in this area. I just feel fortunate to have met him.
My deepest condolences to Peter’s family during this difficult time. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
