Obituary
Penny Stonecypher of Bellingham, WA, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022, in Bellingham. She was 56, born January 18, 1966, to Kathleen Lois (Wilson) and Timothy Lee Stonecypher in Los Angeles, California.
She graduated from Sehome High School (class of 1984) and then earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at Western Washington University.
She moved to Oregon in 2000. She married Gary Vale, and lived and worked in the greater Portland area. She also lived in Lynden, Washington, before moving back to Bellingham.
She found joy even in the tiniest of things. She never stopped wanting to learn. She loved animals, and all the family pets loved her. She loved drawing her little cartoon animals. She was a crafter and made beautiful beaded jewelry. She was a puzzle solver. She loved running and ran many marathons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tim and Kathy.
Survivors include sister Pam Hannan and husband Brian of Bellingham; niece Holly Hannan of Bellingham; son Taylor Eke and wife Rebecca of Oregon; former husband Gary Vale of Oregon; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Rest In Peace Penny, I remember skate boarding or trying to at the Sudden Valley House so many years ago.

I was very sorry to read of Penny’s death. Penny was one of my mathematics students at Western and one of our very first Math Fellows. She was a totally enjoyable student as well as a wonderful person. I know you will miss her.
