Obituary

Norah Lee (Cyr) Smith passed away April 12, 2017, with family at her bedside. Norah was born July 28, 1940 in Bellingham, WA, the firstborn of LeRoy and Norah (Davis) Cyr. Norah leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Gary Smith, her two sons, Rick Smith and Ron Smith (Simone), two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Norah also leaves behind four siblings, Penny Van Buren (Russ), Wendee Hamilton (John), Phil Cyr, and Tracie Cyr.
Norah graduated from Bellingham High School in 1958. She spent her early years working for her father at the XXX Barrel and also at Mt. Baker Lodge. Later she worked for Farmers Insurance Group for 30 years.
Norah was a big help to her family, helping her parents, her younger sister Tracie, and with Penny’s daughter. She kept active with her gardening, her children, and friends from high school, meeting frequently for lunch and evenings out. Norah always kept busy with her grandchildren, Skylar and Amanda. She enjoyed golf and went to many golfing events with Gary and friends.
Norah’s family would like to thank Hospice for the wonderful care she received during her last ten days. They were such a help to Gary and the family and there aren’t words to describe how much they were appreciated.
A celebration of her life will be held on April 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Moles Farewell Tributes in Bellingham. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care.

Your love was overwhelming. Parenting is the most challenging, difficult, and rewarding of all of life’s experiences. I thank God every day that YOU were my mom and you showed me the way. I know you are with Gram and Grandad now. knowing that helps ease the pain and the void in my heart and soul. Thank you for being my mom. Love your baby boy Ron.

  4. So sorry to hear of Norahs passing. She was a great lady and friend all the way back to high school. Was really neat that all of us gals kept in touch over 50 yrs. Now she is at rest with Mary Jo, and Joanne Westford. Take care Gary and we wish you the best in the yrs. to come.
