Obituary

Natalia Ann Deen

August 5, 1993 – December 21, 2023

Born on a hot summer day, Natalia grew to be a very sweet girl who had a huge love for animals, both real and stuffed, as we know from her collections and many photos of her with them.  Her dedication and affinity were rooted deep in her nature, and attendance at Whatcom Hills Waldorf School helped nurture that.  She did her senior project at Bellingham High, via Running Start, in support of the Alternative Humane Society.  Please donate to that organization in lieu of flowers.

Natalia went on to art school, as she was incredibly talented and from early on had the ability to see beauty in the natural order of things.  Many art exhibits of all kinds were participated in and fine arts visited.  Cards to loved ones were always homemade with the sweetest intent, beauty, and well wishes.

In addition to art she enjoyed movies and gaming, and a bit of gardening and cooking.  Her silly streak will be missed.  She served as loving auntie to the children of her closest friends.  Her nicknames included Sweet Pea, The Girl or Girl, Miss, Shrinky, Sweetie, and Danny.

Natalia is survived by her father, Michael Deen, and mother, Christine Martin.  As well her paternal grandfather, Daniel Deen, and maternal grandmother, Cathryn Martinson and step-grandfather Ward Nelson.  She will be missed by her aunts and uncles:  Carrie and Doug Booth, Brandon and Amanda Nelson, Justin and Jennifer Nelson, Wendy Heavrin and Pat Haight, and great aunts and uncles Cheryl Martin, Doug Martinson, Dan Martinson and Mike and Gerilynn Martinson.  Natalia’s many, many cousins of different ages and relations, with which she was so fortunate to spend time with throughout her life, will also miss her deeply.

It was always acknowledged that Natalia was so fortunate to grow up with the support of an entire village…truly.  She was fortunate to spend time with her great grandparents Melvin and Clara Martin and Jack and Rosalie Kerr, of whom great grandma Rosalie remains living.  She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents Warren and Colleen Martin, paternal grandmother Kathleen Chambers, and cherished friends and pets.

Please celebrate Natalia’s life and memory with all the wonderful descriptions that have come since her passing:  Awesome.  Creative.  Sweet.  Strong.  Talented.  Special.  Gifted.  Beautiful.  Tenacious.  Compassionate.  Impactful.  Amazing.                                                            May she rest in peace.
