Obituary

Naomi “Jean” (Nelson) Means met Jesus after passing peacefully on November 7, 2022 at 11:30 p.m.  She was the 8th and youngest child of Effie and Burt Nelson, born in Laramie, Wyoming, on January 26, 1930.  She is preceded in death by the “love of her life” of 60 years, her husband, Harvey Edward Means.  She was also preceded in death by her mother and father and seven of her siblings.

Harvey and Jean spent their life in Bellingham, Washington, working hard and raising a family.  Jean worked at Booth’s Chicken Dinner and at Newberry’s years ago.  She was named the “hot dog lady” and proud of it.  Later, after taking classes in Office Management, she became the office manager for the RSVP in Bellingham.

During retirement years, they joined the “Clipper Club” and traveled in their motorhome making friends and seeing the USA and Canada. She also was an avid reader and always enjoyed getting together with her SPA Sisters.

Jean is survived by her son, Wayne Means, her daughter Linda and son-in-law Bill Cannon.   Grandchildren Rebecca (Michael) Myers, Kyle (Tiffany) Cannon and four great grandchildren including her two great granddaughters who carry on Jean’s name: Grace Naomi Myers, Charlee Jean Cannon, Patrick Edward Myers and Hank Patrick Cannon. Nephew Michael and wife Traci Harward and their family. Plus, numerous nephews and nieces.

Jean moved to York PA to live with her daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Bill, who lovingly cared for her during her final years. She was a beautiful, caring Christian and always said her greatest gift from God was her family.  We all loved her so much.  She was the heart of our family.

  1. Jean had a very special place in my heart… she was a second mother to me & 2 other lifetime friends of Linda. She was full of life , a wonderful sense of humor, and her love of God, family & friends radiated on her beautiful face. Every day of her life was a gift to us all, a blessing from God. Sending much love to her precious family.

  2. Thinking of you all today, with heartfelt sympathy, as you say goodbye to a very sweet lady. I always enjoyed our visits together at the mall when she was a faithful mall walker. She truly loved her family. She will certainly be missed by you all.
Love and warm thoughts today from my
    Heart.

Jean was a member of Fourth Corner Community Church when I met her. However I didn’t get to know her well until a group of women formed a Christian Book Group when that church dissolved. We have met twice monthly since that time (2007?). Someone coined the phrase Spiritual Spa Sisters and we pray together for each other, our community and the world. We also share much laughter, friendship and sometimes our burdens. Jean was a magic part of that group for all the reasons mentioned at her service. Her spirit is down to earth, ever so quick witted, warm and loving. We miss her but know she spent her life looking forward to this future with her Savior and those who have gone before her. Thinking of all her family who miss her so much and pray for them much rest and a safe journey home.
