Obituary:

Chief Warrant Officer-4 Michael J. Schulke Sr., a distinguished Marine and cherished family man, passed away on July 28, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Angelina Schulke, whom he married on October 9, 1976, in Olongapo City, Philippines.

Michael’s passions were diverse and deeply enjoyed: fishing, hunting, gardening, raising chickens, shooting his bow, and riding around in his chariot. He will be remembered for his selflessness, thoughtfulness, genuine nature, loving spirit, and determined personality. His family fondly recalls his weekly updates about his fishing adventures, his smoked fish and salsa, and the stories he shared from his life and military service.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Schulke Jr., and Ruth Schulke; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Derrick Garcia; and his sister, Beverly Doman and her family. Michael was also a proud grandfather to Jessiah Schulke, Mason Schulke, Paige Garcia, Joseph Salines, and Sakura Salines.

Military Career:

CWO4 Michael J. Schulke’s career with the United States Marine Corps spanned an impressive 30 years. Enlisting as a Private in 1960, he quickly distinguished himself, earning meritorious promotions and serving in a variety of pivotal roles across the globe. His early assignments included the 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa and a two-year tour of Embassy Duty in Mexico City.

During the Vietnam War, he served with the 3rd ONTOS Battalion, supporting the 4th Marines, and was later promoted to Staff Sergeant. Following a return to CONUS, he served as the Administrative Chief at Marine Barracks Bangor, Washington, before his selection as a Warrant Officer in 1969. After completing Officer Candidate School and The Basic School, he returned to Vietnam as the Adjutant for the 1st Battalion, 11th Marines.

Schulke’s career continued with significant roles, including serving as Assistant Base Adjutant and OIC at Personnel Administration School in Quantico, Virginia, and later as the Adjutant for MAG-36 and MAG-42 Det C. His final assignment was with the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command in San Francisco, where he was Director of Personnel and Training Officer for 23 Military Entrance Processing Stations across the Western United States, Alaska, and Hawaii.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (2nd Award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Legacy:

CWO4 Schulke’s legacy is marked by his unwavering dedication to his country, his exceptional service in the Marine Corps, and his deep love for his family. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
