Obituary
Melvin was born in Bellingham to Dayton and Elizabeth (Six) Friend and graduated in the class of 1950 from Bellingham High School. He married Lorraine C. Olson in 1959 and they raised their son, Greg, in their hometown.
Melvin was a talented chef for many years and loved all types of outdoor activities; hiking, golfing, and enjoying nature. He was always kind, sweet, and compassionate to everyone he met.
He is predeceased by his parents and survived by his wife, Lorraine, and son, Greg (Della) Friend.
A funeral service will be held Tues, 2/7 at 10:00am at the First Congregational Church of Bellingham.
Memorial donations may be made to the Whatcom Hospice Foundation (2901 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham) or the First Congregational Church of Bellingham (2401 Cornwall Ave.)

Lorraine, I am so sorry to hear of Mel’s passing though I know he is with the saints now. Please know that I am lifting you in prayer in this time of great loss. I am also remembering stories of your many trips, as dad would tell them when you and Mel returned home (despite detours to Veronica, Oregon.) Mom and dad so enjoyed their friendship with you two. I am glad that Greg is near. I hope to be able to attend Mel’s service. God bless you, Amy
