Obituary

Mary Lillian Augustine

Mary Augustine passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her Bellingham, WA home on July 8, 2012 at the age of 85. She was born to Gustav and Lillian Schenk on July 26, 1926 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After working at Wright Field to support the troops abroad during World War II, Mary graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Bacteriology. It was there that she met and married John Henry Augustine, her husband of fifty years. They embarked on their lifelong adventure together where they lived in many places including, Florida, California, and Illinois, before finally retiring in Washington. Mary was a member of The Child Guidance Guild in Whittier, CA for over 20 years, where she fundraised for children in need. She was known for her beautiful paintings, her mastery of crossword puzzles, her love of mysteries, her mischievous sense of humor, and her sparkling personality. Family will remember her as a wonderful mother and grandmother, for her gracious and generous heart, and for providing a lovely, welcoming home environment.

She is survived by her son, Chris; daughter, Ann; son-in-law, James; granddaughter, Becca; sister, Barbara; and her many nieces and nephews.

As per her wishes no services will be held, as she would like to join her husband John in Wisconsin where they will celebrate Christmas all year-round.

  1. Dear Mom, Soon we will board the plane to Green Bay to take you home to be with Dad. You will ride safely by my side, and I will give you a smile and a loving pat from time to time. On Friday, we will celebrate your life with laughter and tears. First, we will bury you next to Dad and I will read a letter that I have written to you thanking you for all of the love that you have given me. Then we will dine at the Union Hotel with family and friends, just as we did for your 50th wedding anniversary and when we celebrated Dad’s life. You will hold the place of honour at the table as we raise a glass to a dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend. You are at peace now Mom and I love you dearly. Annie
