Obituary

Mary Anne Radder (née Hazelton) died peacefully in her home in Bellingham on July 25th at the age of 70.
Mary Anne was born on October 17, 1945 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Mary Anne grew up in the Whatcom Falls Park neighborhood of Bellingham. It was a childhood spent roaming the woods near the Falls, swimming at Bloedel Donovan Park and hanging out with friends. Her family also had a cabin at Gooseberry Point where she spent summers beachcombing and rowing her little row boat around the bay. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1963. In 1970, she married Donald Lee Radder, a millwright at Georgia Pacific. In the following decades, she focused her energy on raising her children and working as a fantastic homemaker. Mary excelled at cooking homemade meals and goodies and making her home a welcoming place for all. Her children remember her as an extremely kind, loving and supportive mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Through the years, Mary Anne and Don travelled extensively to interesting places such as Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Machu Picchu, Europe and the pyramids of Egypt. In recent years, Mary Anne very much loved being a grandmother to her two grandchildren, Zoe and James. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She enjoyed spending morning coffee time at Lafeen’s Donut Shop where she would socialize with friends. She loved delicious seafood, a nice glass of Riesling, and conversation with others.
Mary Anne is survived by her husband, Donald, her children, Chris Radder of San Diego, Dr. Lori Radder (Dr. Sam Donohoe) of Bellingham, and her two grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earle and Melbourne Hazelton.
Mary passed away after a hard fought battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She was laid to rest at Greenacres Memorial Park in a private graveside service on July 29th. There will be an upcoming memorial for family and friends on August 28th at the family home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Mary Anne’s behalf to ALS research at ALS.net.
