Obituary

Martha Anna McPherson, age 83, of Black Diamond, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in Renton, Washington. She was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Bellingham to Charles and Christine (Swanson) Golden and resided in Black Diamond for the past 26 years. Mrs. McPherson became engaged to George McPherson in 1951 and they were married on April 19, 1952. Martha graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Western Washington University in 1954. She taught elementary school in Enumclaw, WA for twenty years between 1965 and 1990. Prior to that time she had taught elementary school in: Everson, WA, San Diego, CA, Tachikawa Air Force Base, Japan, and Seattle, WA. As an educator, her forte’ was teaching children to read. After retiring, Martha and George enjoyed traveling together and hosting many family and friends at their Lake Sawyer home.
Through the years, she taught Sunday school at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Enumclaw, sang in the Seattle Chorale, was a past Chair of the Enumclaw League of Women Voters, and, a past member of the Enumclaw Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Wesley and Louis Feighner, her four sisters, Mona Douglas, Hope Hansen, Kay Boehringer, and Rachel McLoed. Martha is survived by her husband George of Black Diamond; her daughters, Robin (John) Porter of Maple Valley, and Kathy (Rob) Thomas of Renton; her son, Steve (Shinako) McPherson of Maple Valley; her six grandchildren, Christopher Porter of Seattle, Caitlin Porter of Portland, Oregon, Vince Thomas, of Seattle, Lauren Thomas, of Renton, Sarah McPherson and Hana McPherson, both of Maple Valley; one great-grandchild, Jayce Mitchell; and many dear nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Fri., Feb. 27, 1:00 pm at Moles Farewell Tributes – Greenacres.

    I was so sorry to hear about Martha s passing.I worked for Martha at Kibler for 20 years.
    She was a wonderful teacher and I enjoyed working for her. She made quite an impression on many many children!
