Obituary

Marlene Rae Blockley, 84, of Deming Washington died at her home Monday, January 27th, 2025, surrounded by family.

Marlene was born March 16th, 1940, in Bellingham to Eric and Jessie Plattner. She graduated in 1958 from Bellingham High School. Marlene met the love of her life William “Bill” Blockley the summer of 1958 and they were married October 17th, 1959. They had 3 children: William “Craig”, Charlene, and Clyde.

She worked with the Mount Baker School District for over 30 years in the kitchen and retired when she was darn good and ready. Marlene enjoyed getting to know the kids as much as preparing food for them each year.

She supported her late husband Bill in his logging business and always ensured the crew was taken care of and well fed. Anyone who entered her home was treated like family.

Marlene was constantly the host of family occasions. Providing for others and bringing together her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought her the most joy. In retirement she could often be found working on a sewing project, which continued up until her passing.

Marlene is survived by her three children: William “Craig” (Debbie), Charlene (Steve), and Clyde (Kelli). 11 grandchildren; Elizabeth, Dani (Lance), Suni (Christopher), Steven, Melanie, Ricky (Cassie), Brandi (Matthew), Shanli, Kaitlyn (Jen), Bryce (Audrey), and Erynn. 13 great grandchildren; Quinn, Everlee, Carter, Wesson, Renley, Theo, Presley, Leighton, Delany, Ezra, Astrid, and Kynsley. Her sister Nora, and her sister-in-law Wilna (Bob) Baisden.

She is preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Blockley, her parents Eric and Jessie Plattner, and her sisters Linda, Karen, and Judy.
