Obituary

Mark John Whitney, beloved son, brother, & friend, went suddenly and peacefully into the arms of God. He grew up in Bellingham and relocated to Oklahoma. He was Lead Inspector for pipeline projects. He had just finished building the Texas natural gas pipeline to the Mexican border & relocated to build a gas regeneration plant in N.W. Oregon. He died in Bellingham on May 14, 2017.

Mark walked close & tight with God. His strong discerning spirit, generosity, & loyalty portrayed the gentle giant of a man he was to so many of us – the man we knew and loved.

Mark is predeceased by his father Darrell Whitney. He is survived by his mother Susan Whitney, Bellingham; sister Machelle Whitney, Vancouver, WA; brothers Joe Whitney, Bellingham, & Mike Whitney (Iwona), Poland, and their children, Mark’s nephew Adam & niece Wiktoria Whitney.

A graveside service will be held on Friday May 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Bayview Cemetery, Bellingham. A celebration of Mark’s life will be held Sunday May 28, 12:00-6:00 p.m. at the Bellingham Yacht Club – 2625 Harbor Loop Dr. Bellingham.

    I am very sorry for your loss. I just heard today from a mutual friend that we worked with at the Suncor Pipeline project in Colorado. I am very sorry for your loss. I worked with Mark for three years. He is a true gentleman.

  2. Mark was a true blessing upon our family. A genuine friend and gentleman in every sense. He enriched our lives in so many ways throughout our friendship with him. We will always remember him with the fondest of thoughts as he has a special place in our hearts and prayers. We offer our sincerest sympathies to Mark’s family for their immeasurable loss.     I am very sorry for your loss. I was not friends with Mark at Bellingham High School, but I did have interactions with him through his brother Joe. The posted picture that is on this page is exactly how I remember him. Always happy and a really nice guy. May he rest in peace.
