Obituary

Marilyn June (Moles) Bezona passed peacefully on May 30th at 97 years old. She was born in 1927 at the “county hospital” in Bellingham, WA to John Hindle Moles and Florence (Leighton) Moles.

Marilyn graduated from Ferndale High School in 1945 and married Glenn Bezona in July the following year. Together they raised 5 children in the Ferndale area. Marilyn worked at the Evergreen Pharmacy and later at Ferndale High School where she was the “attendance lady” and secretary to the Vice Principal. She loved working with the students and they either loved or feared her, depending…In the 1980’s Glenn and Marilyn moved to Winthrop where they grew apples and a bountiful garden. They spent those Winthrop years with dear friends from the Methow valley as well as the west side and often hosted family get togethers. All of their grandkids loved coming to make cider in the fall and play in the snow in the Winter.

After Glenn retired, he took another job with Mobil Oil in Singapore and later in Saudi Arabia. This time in their lives was exciting and interesting and they made the most of it, traveling to many other countries as well. After Glenn passed in 2005 Marilyn moved to Lynden, WA where she loved to walk in her neighborhood and visit with dear friends. She was an avid reader and cherished her time with a good book each day. She was also a gifted writer of letters as well as her memories and experiences of traveling in exotic places.

The words that best describe her are independent, capable and self-sacrificing. There wasn’t much she couldn’t and didn’t do with grace and ease. In her late 70’s she tore out a sizable patch of grass in her yard and laid paving stones to make a patio, single handedly.

Marilyn leaves behind her 4 children, Nancy Bezona having preceded her in death in 2024; Diane (Bud) Swann, Carol Woodward, Jerry (Marsha) Bezona, Barbara (Jim) Swansen, her grandchildren Luke (Jenny) Swann, Ashley Swann (preceded in death in 2014),Tamia Nordby, Brooke (Darren) Piggins, Kevin Nordby, April Bezona, Ari (Candy) Bezona, Clayton Swansen and Maria (Tyler) Hanson, and 4 great grandchildren; Wes, Liam, Alana and Katie.
