Obituary

Marie Maxine Olberg went home to the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at PeaceHealth St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham, WA. She was born on November 8, 1921 to John and Kathryn Hergert in Greybull, WY. She grew up with 13 siblings – a house of 7 boys and 7 girls, 5 of which are still living: Kay Johnson, Jake Hergert, Billy Hergert, Phil (Cleta) Hergert and Hank (Bonnie) Hergert.

Chuck and Marie were married November 20, 1941 in Bellingham, WA. She is preceded in death by her husband Chuck; son Charles Allen and grandson Chuckie. Surviving are their children Darrell (Carolyn) Olberg, Darlene (Gene) Keller; grandchildren Pat Olberg, Pam Gilbert, Paul Olberg, Sam (Le-Ann) Olberg, Amy (Mark) Shintaffer, Billy Olberg, Shala (Jeff) Brand; step-grandchildren Rhonda (Craig) Kurtz, Larry (Sally) Lewis, Justine (Mark) Hare, Jeremy Helm and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Marie lived at the Parkway Chateau/Solstice from 2005, after the passing of her husband, until April 2018. She had since been residing at Brookdale Fairhaven. While living at the Parkway Chateau, Marie was the “sunshine person” and sent cards to residents for special occasions and those who were sick. She always made a point to make them feel special by writing a personal verse for each one.

All her life, Marie was a very hard worker. She raised children while working as a “Rosie the Riveter” during the war, picked berries with her family, and worked in other crops in her younger days, among other jobs. She enjoyed socializing with her family and friends, gardening, cooking for loved ones, and had a passion for camping. She had an unwavering faith in the Lord and had a beautiful smile that could light up any room.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph hospital for their loving care of Marie.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 26, at 1:00pm, at Greenacres, 5700 Northwest Dr., Ferndale.

  1. One of my favorite people, all time. During WWII and some years after, Aunt Marie’s house was always a place of comfort and kindness.I am sure she is with Uncle Chuck, the absolute love of her life.
    RIP my dear Aunt.

  2. Condolences on the passing of Marie. She was a favorite sister in law. We always loved your blackberry pies especially her brother John. Your home was always warm and friendly and we enjoyed our visits. You will be missed and we think of you always with fondest memories.Love Dorothy Hergert

My heart goes out to your family in behalf of your loved one. Such beautiful sentiments expressed, I know she will be missed. She looked and sounded like such a sweet lady. In times of sadness our Heavenly Father assures of his loving support,Psalm 34:18. May the many hugs, cards, caring thoughts and prayers also be a source of comfort.

  4. Dear Marie,We love you with all our heart. The beautiful memories of staying with you and your family are treasures that will stay with me forever. Your home was magical, the smells of cooking and the fragrances I smelled at the vanity filled my senses with delight.
To me Darlene was the princess of the castle and you were the Queen and Uncle Chuck the King of hearts because I only knew love from him. Your body will be gone but you will live forever in our memories. You were one of my roll models, I hear your laugh still. One day we will join you when we too go home to our Father. I cry tears of joy for having experiencing all of you.
    Love always, Debbie
