Obituary

Margi was born March 12, 1959 in Bellingham, WA.  She graduated High School in Petaluma, CA, then went on to complete a 4 year Bachelors degree program in 1981 at Ambassador College in Pasadena, CA, where she would meet her future husband.  Married in May 1982, she worked full time for the College’s IT department as a computer programmer until 1996, when she, along with her husband and children, moved to Washington state, to be close to family.  Settling on to a small farm on the outskirts of Lynden, WA, she accepted a computer programming position at Haggen Corporation, a popular grocer in the northwest, where she worked until her retirement in 2012.

Life since retirement had been full of farm activities, gardening, preserving produce, quilting, sewing, jewelry making, and helping friends and family members with whatever they were doing.   She enjoyed playing the piano, sailing, line dancing, learning new skills, and teaching and sharing with others those skills she mastered.  Recognized for her dedication and unfailing service not only to fellow church members but all with whom she came in contact, she was ordained a deaconess in 2017.  She leaves a legacy of serving and giving to others, never thinking of herself.

In April of 2024, she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and for the next six months fought bravely through multiple chemo treatments and hospital stays.  She succumbed finally on November 19th, leaving a huge hole in the lives of those who knew her.   She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Peter Rowe, daughter Jamie Holmes (James) of Lynden, WA, son Gregory Rowe of Everett, WA, son Brian Rowe of Allentown, PA, and son David Rowe (Sarah) of Salem, OR, her father, James John of Blaine, WA, her brother, Jerrel John (Annette) of Blaine, WA, and one grand-daughter, Adrianna Holmes of Lynden, WA.

Memorial service will take place 2:00pm Wednesday, December 4th,at the Moles Farewell Tributes  Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA, where she will be laid to rest close to her mother and other departed family.

  1. We are so sorry for the passing of Margi. We always looked forward to her visits when we went to Lynden to visit Jerrel and Annette John. She was a great cook and always brought something to share with everyone. Margi would tackle just about any project . We will definitely miss her presence when we go to Lynden to visit.

  2. Annette John says:

Margi was my sister-in-law, but she was also my dear friend! When we moved to Washington she came over almost everyday, making sure we were setting in and helping us get to know the area. We shared a love of gardening and crafting. We often shared our culinary experiments with each other. She is gone too soon and will be sorely missed around here.

  3. Margi brings back many memories from 30-40 years ago.

She was part of a group that did an over night mountain-climbers route to the top of Mt Whitney around 1980. She was well organized and able to help out others. A strong wind came up as the sun was setting and we stopped to make camp in a shielded area near the summit. While some of us were shivering in our sleeping bags, she was making a stir-fry at 14,000 ft! A hot meal was awesome at that time!

Margi worked for me in the church computer department. She was determined and would not give up until a system was working right. She was always patient, even when specifications changed or another person’s mistake was causing her trouble. Everyone liked working with her.

I remember seeing a beautiful bouquet of flowers on her desk at work one morning. I soon found out that they were placed there by Pete Rowe! I was happy for both of them!

In the early 1990s, our children played with the Rowe children at the church’s grade school. My wife still remembers going to the Rowe home for a dinner invite and the wonderful food Margi prepared after coming home from a full day of work.

It is my firm belief that we will see everyone again in the resurrection! I am looking forward to that day!

  4. I was a new programmer in the church’s computer department. Margi had started working in the department just a few months before me so we were the new kids on the block. Margi and I often helped each other fill the gaps in our programming skills. She was always patient, hard-working and very sharp in her work but also had so many interests outside of her career. She will be missed by many.
