Obituary

Margaret Lind    July 10, 1932 – July 3, 2023

Margaret Lind, age 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born July 10, 1932, in Sumas, Washington to Albert R. and Elizabeth Haveman. She grew up in Bellingham and attended Campus School and Bellingham High School. She married her high school sweetheart Donald Lind on December 28, 1951. Together they raised four children – Lori, Lisa, Susan and David. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary last December.

Margaret returned to school in the 1970’s and attended Western Washington State College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. She later started her own business (Creative Winds) making and selling windsocks. Don and Margaret loved hopping in their trailer and selling her windsocks at craft fairs around the state. They made many cherished friends along the way. They also enjoyed many trips to Hawaii in their retirement years. Margaret loved Christmas! One of her lifelong passions was collecting Santa Clauses from all over the world. She would start decorating her house in October each year and for many years held an open house so her family, friends and all her windsock customers could enjoy her elaborate Christmas displays. She was very thankful to go on her first European trip with her niece Kathy Kaiser to visit the Christmas Markets in various countries.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Elizabeth Haveman, brother and sister-in-law Tom and Patricia Haveman, sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Ian Monson, sister-in-law Edna Easterby, son-in-law Stanley Erickson, granddaughter Lindsay Erickson and special niece Kathy Kaiser.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years Donald Lind, Lori Erickson, Lisa Anderson (Donald), Susan Metcalfe (Forest) and David Lind. Grandchildren Jill Erickson (Alex Gomez), Tim Erickson (Bri), Sarah Holmes (Trenton), Angelica Metcalfe and Ryan Metcalfe (Anya) and great grandchildren Uniq, Antonio and Gianna Metcalfe, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Victor and Cherry Lind and many other loving family members and friends.

Many thanks to our wonderful and caring caregivers.

  1. I am one of those lucky people who got to know Margaret almost my whole life and have always thought of her as my second mother. She was always so kind and welcomed me into her family without hesitation. I always felt a special kinship with Margaret because we shared the same name. She will be greatly missed but she will always have a special place in my heart.

  2. Such a wonderful, talented woman. Sending love to the family.

  3. My deepest condolences at this difficult time.

  4. I am so sorry to learn of Margaret’s passing and send my condolences to Don and her family. I first met Margaret when we started kindergarten together at the Campus School so many years ago. She was and has always been a warm and caring friend to all her classmates and so many others. A long and fruitful life well lived,. goodbye “Mugs”

  5. I always respected my Aunt Margaret. She was always friendly to me as a child growing up. I would get conversed as if I was interesting as a little child. My memories are pleasant of her at our family gathering. I do have the regret of not visiting more over the last years. When I would visit, Cookies and Coffee were the norm.
Margaret worked hard to raise her family properly. When we talked there was pride in her Children and Grandchildren. I would get the update to what everyone was accomplishing.
