Obituary

Major General Benjamin F. Starr passed away peacefully, May 30, 2013. He was born December 14, 1924 in Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his first son Rick and his first wife of 54 years, Ginny Starr. He is survived by his sister, Betty Brooks, son Mark Starr, daughter Cindy Kintner, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, wife Bobbi Starr and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Fred entered the service as an Aviation Cadet in 1943. He attended Georgia Tech and graduated from George Washington University. He served 34 years of active duty in the Air Force, moving with his family over twenty times. He flew over 8000 flying hours mostly in Strategic Air Command with 400 combat hours in Vietnam as a Forward Air Controller. Maj. Gen. Starr served as commander of three Military Airlift Command wings. He served 2 tours in the Pentagon.
Pop, as he was lovingly known by his beloved children and grandchildren, had many passions in life including flying, wood working, golfing, hunting, and traveling.
After retiring from the Air Force, he and his wife Ginny lived in Niceville, Florida for 18 years. After Ginny’s death he moved to Air Force Village, San Antonio, Texas, where he lived for 6 years. He then moved to Kennewick, Washington, and soon after was reacquainted with long time Air Force friend, Roberta “Bobbi” Mason. They were married August 30, 2008, in Bellingham, Washington. He enjoyed their home in Sudden Valley overlooking the golf course and enjoyed many family gatherings.
Regarding his remarkable military and family life he writes “My experience has been so overwhelmingly influenced by what I believe to be spiritual blessings. I honestly believe every single incident was some kind of circumstance that God arranged for His purpose in my life. I do not profess to know what that purpose was all the time but I know that God is absolutely sovereign and is in control especially of our circumstances”.
Pop will be greatly missed by all his family and friends but leaves behind a great legacy of faith, family, and military service. Military honors will be at Bayview Cemetery June 17, 2013, at 1 PM. A memorial service will follow at Northlake Community Church at 2:30 PM.
