Lifelong resident of Ferndale

Lawrence Nordby Obituary Lawrence Julius Nordby, a lifelong resident of Ferndale, went to be with the Lord on February 8th, 2014. He passed away at home surrounded by his family at the age of 87.

Lawrence was born in Ferndale on May 23, 1926, the eighth child of Julius and Clara Nordby. Lawrence graduated from Ferndale High School in 1944, and then attended Western Washington State College where he earned his Masters Degree in Education. Lawrence taught school in the Bellingham school district for 31 years. He was a member of the North Bellingham Methodist Church, followed by the United Church of Ferndale, where he sang in the choir and led bible studies. Lawrence was also a scout master, a member of the North Bellingham Grange, and an all-around active participant in his community. Lawrence had a lifelong love of music and theater. Playing his guitar and singing for family and friends was something he always enjoyed. Other interests included amateur radio and gardening.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Frances (Phillips-Johnson); daughter Lorene (Nordby-Love) and husband Roman Lewandowski; son Lyle Nordby and his dear friend Susan Priest; granddaughter Jennifer Gehringer and her husband John; grandsons Brian and Kevin Love; great grandchildren Cole and Kyla Gehringer; stepsons Larry and Rudy Johnson and stepdaughters Karen Del Nagro and Karol Evans; brother-in-law Marlin Erickson, his wife Betty, and brother-in-law Les Phillips. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Loralee (Erickson) Nordby.

Farewell Tribute Information

All are invited to a graveside service at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday, February 13. You are invited to meet at Moles Farewell Tributes in Ferndale at 10:45am and follow the family out to Woodlawn or meet the family at 11:00 am at the cemetery. Following the graveside you are invited to a memorial service at 2:00 PM, at the United Church of Ferndale.
