Obituary

On Tuesday, April 14, 2021, Laura Ann Hill, 55, of Bellingham, Washington, passed away after a five-year battle with Cancer. Born on March 29, 1966 in Sangley Point, Philippines, Laura was the daughter of the late Thomas and Yvonne Mettey of Kingsville, Texas.

As the daughter of a Navy Chief, Laura lived in many places but was raised primarily in Kingsville, Texas, where she attended Henrietta King High School, and Texas A&M University at Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I). She graduated with honors acquiring a BA and MA in English. She later acquired a Master’s in special education and a Doctorate in Education at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi.

Laura’s passion was teaching English and language acquisition. She taught Middle School and High School students in Alice, Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio, Corpus Christi, Texas, and the Lummi Nation School in Bellingham, Washington. Laura taught for 33 years, affecting her students’ lives wherever she worked, tirelessly, until her death. Her professionalism and dedication will be missed by her peers, colleagues, and students.

Laura was a published author and loved to write about the rich culture of South Texas. Although locating to Bellingham, Washington later in life, she remained a Texan at heart. Laura was a Christian and attended Catholic churches in Kingsville, Alice, and Corpus Christi, Texas.

Laura is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Yvonne Mettey, and brother, Richard Mettey. She is survived by her husband, William “Billy” Hill, children Thomas and Jesse Hill of Bellingham, WA, brothers, Gary Mettey of Kingsville, TX, David Mettey of Corpus Christi, TX, and Daniel Mettey (Elyssa) of Kingsville, TX, and nephew, Jackson Mettey of Fayetteville, AR. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Jane Brown of Bellingham, WA, late of Corpus Christi, TX. Laura was loved by her many brothers and sisters-in-law and will be missed dearly by them all. Laura had many Aunts and Uncles in the Cincinnati, OH area. She had many nieces and nephews through marriage whom she loved dearly.

Services will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA. Laura desired that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Matthew 25 Ministries, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio.
