Obituary

Larry Don “Tex” Lindsey passed away on Tuesday May 2, 2023. Born on April 30, 1943 in Dennison, Texas to Elton and Bonnie Lindsey, Larry spent his early years in Fort Worth, Texas, where he graduated from Polly High School and began working at the Lone Star gas company as a shop office manager.

In 1963, he married Becky Shelton and settled down in their first home in Fort Worth. Together they welcomed two sons, Todd and Chad.  In 1969, the family moved to Washington state to be closer to his parents.  After a 30-year career at Alcoa (formerly known as Intalco), Larry retired in 2002. A few weeks after retiring he went to the Whatcom Humane Society in Bellingham and fell in love with a German Shephard-Akita named Kona, and for the next 15 years where Pops went, Kona was in tow.

Following a vacation to Yuma, Arizona visiting his longtime friends Wally and Lois Davieau, he decided to buy his retirement oasis directly across the street. Larry eased into retirement indulging in his love for cars, boats, RVs, a moped, and even a stretch limo, at one time he had over 9 licensed vehicles. He loved chauffeuring the guys or the gals to their weekly lunches or special occasions.  He enjoyed fishing, listening to the oldies, cooking and most of all, entertaining. The next 20 years were spent in Yuma, enjoying time with his Arizona family of friends affectionately known as the “54th Street Gang.”

Larry will be remembered for his infectious laughter, big hugs, southern drawl, and cowboy hats.  Anyone who ever met “Pops” was greeted with a smile, a firm handshake (or hug), and always offered a beverage or snack.  His hospitality and desire to be of service to those around him is one of the many things we will miss.

Larry was proceeded in death by his father Elton, mother Bonnie, sister Melessa Katzenberger, brother Jerry Lindsey, infant son Eric Lindsey and numerous aunts and uncles, along with his long-time companion, Kona. He is survived by his son Todd (Denise) Lindsey, grandsons Travis and Brandon Lindsey, son Chad (Laura) Lindsey, and longtime girlfriend Linda Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at the Ferndale Pavilion, 2007 Cherry St, Ferndale, WA, 98248 from 1:30pm-3:30pm on Friday June 9th.  Please come and join us for a celebration of his life.
