Obituary

Kenneth Wirth, age 63, passed away on October 29, 2017 in Bellingham, WA. Kenny was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 20, 1954, and grew to fill the shoes of his dad by helping raise his younger sisters. He attended school in Brooklyn and later moved to Washington. There he worked for many years at Bellingham Cold Storage, and was a longtime friend of Bill W.

Kenny will be remembered for his kind and giving character, and will be dearly missed by the friends and family he leaves behind. He was great at making people laugh, even when they didn’t want to. He was a big guy with a big heart, a big smile, and a big laugh. He loved watching any sport, but especially loved rooting for his favorites: the New York Yankees, the New York Rangers, and the New York Giants. And he was a fantastic cook!

Kenny is predeceased by his mother Elizabeth and his father Kenneth. He is survived by his sons Andrew (Amie), Jacob (Courtney), and Mitch (Nicole); his granddaughters Kora and Ellie; his sisters Karen (Robert), Linda (Gene), and Sandra; his nephews Michael, Steven, and Matthew; as well as numerous cousins and friends. “Meinke!” He will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lighthouse Mission at PO Box 548 Bellingham, WA 98227.

I’m in charge of music at Central Lutheran Church in Bellingham. Quite a few years ago, Ken joined our singing group. He was such a joy! He was level headed, good natured and so funny! He always knew when to say something to make us all laugh and lighten the mood. I think he also played bells in our bell choir. I saw Ken in a play at Bellingham Theatre Guild and he was hilarious! I wish I could have seen him again after he left our church, but our paths never crossed. He was a wonderful man! I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart was heavy as I heard stories about him at the funeral yesterday. I wish I could have seen him again. The funeral was a beautiful tribute to Ken.

  2. I am deeply saddened by the news of Kenny’s passing. He was a kind and caring soul. He was one of the many people who helped me immensely on my journey in life. He unselfishly gave his time, energy, and hope to a vast multitude of people. His presence certainly made the world a better place for many of us. Godspeed my friend…
