Obituary

Kathryn A. Rogers, 91, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, October 17, 2012. She was born in Bellingham in 1921, the daughter of Oscar W. and Agnes M. Rogers. She attended Roeder Elementary, Whatcom High School, and graduated from Wheaton College. At college she excelled and received awards in sharp shooting. Later during WWII she served in the Red Cross at a San Francisco naval hospital.

Before retiring she was a middle school girls counselor. She was a world traveler, avid reader, and received great enjoyment in family and pet cats. Her favorite place was the family cabin at Birch Bay.
She was strengthened by her deep faith in Jesus Christ, and was member at First Tacoma Presbyterian Church and at Birchwood Community Presbyterian Church after her move to Bellingham 11 years ago. It was her joy to give generously to missionaries around the world including medical missions in Sudan, Overseas Crusades International, Wheaton, and Whitworth University.

  1. We were shocked and saddened to read of Kathryn’s death. Our friendship goes back many years when Joy taught with Kathryn in Tacoma, and Kathryn was a dental patient of Duval’s. We have kept in touch over the years, especially at birthday times when we would phone each other. Kathryn was a great lady, highly intelligent, charming, and a true friend. We will miss our chats with her. I wish she had lived to see a new president! Our love and sympathy go to her niece and family..

  2. We are saddened by the loss of your presence here with us but know that you have gone home.
We wish your family all the joy they can find in celebrating your life.

We will think of you often each time we pick up a good book to read and see the waves splash upon the shore of your loved Birch Bay.

Our prayers are with you on this new journey

I feel privilege that I have known and taken care of Kathryn for 2 years. I will miss our conservations about books and current events, but most of all I will miss her sense of humor. She was a kind and compassionate person. She was very appreciative of the help she received from the caregivers at Birchwood Adult Family Home. She is now with her Lord and Saviour and free of all the pain she endured. I will miss you Kathryn. Cindy Allen Caregiver at Birchwood Adult Family Home
