Obituary

Kathleen Margret Kelly passed away peacefully on May 31, 2018, in Bellingham, Washington. She was born to Clyde L. Kelly and Gloria M. Delgado in San Juan, Puerto Rico on August 18, 1963. As a Navy dependent, she had the opportunity to travel to and live with her family in many parts of the world, including San Juan, PR, Kenitra, Morocco, Washington DC, Mayport, FL, and Whidbey Island; but she spent her adolescence in Bellingham, which she called home. Kathleen graduated from Sehome High School and then obtained a Legal Secretary Certificate from Shoreline Community College in Seattle and Cascade College of Commerce in Bellingham.

Kathy worked as a Legal Secretary in Seattle for many years before returning to her hometown of Bellingham. Once there, she decided to change careers and became a care-giver. This change in careers turned out to be the best for her due to her very compassionate and caring soul. She worked with two great agencies: Home Attendant Care and Visiting Angels, where she met the most loving, friendly, and caring people. Kathy gave her compassion and love and also felt loved and needed!

Her hobbies included exercising, hiking, dancing, and walking with friends. She enjoyed traveling and visited Ireland and Switzerland. She as an avid reader – she always carried reading materials, especially magazines – loved the theater, cinema, music, and local arts. Her favorite singer was Natalie Merchant. Most of all, Kathy was passionate about her family and loved organizing and celebrating family gatherings, holidays, and birthdays. She always made sure everyone received one of her fun gifts and cards.

Kathy had a knack for finding obscure great works of art and had a witty sense of humor. She touched many lives with her beautiful smile and positive outlook on life. She is preceded in death by her father, Clyde L. Kelly, and is survived by her immediate family: mother Gloria M. Delgado; sisters Karen V. Kelly and Kimberly A. Kelly; cousin Darryl Kelly; niece Vanessa A. Cox; nephew Dylan Cox; and cousins Charlie Delgado DiCristina and Dianne Calix.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bellingham Public Library. The family would like to thank the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Hospital doctors, nurses, and staff for the wonderful care they provided during her illness.

  1. So very sorry to hear about your loss..my thoughts for your family during this hard time..

  2. I have a lot of memories with Kathy and your family. My heart breaks for all of you! Kathy had a way of finding everyone’s special qualities and interest. She would want to be apart of her friends lives. For me is was walks, hikes, meeting my kids and pets, and seeing Tom’s boat Although, I was running around Padden one day and ran into her the opposite way. She was walking. She said, “I’ll go with you.” I said, “are you running?” She did a quick turn around and said, “No, I’ll be texting you.” :) She was my mentor and always gave good advice. I’m going to miss our Kathy!
