Obituary

June Rose LaBounty Filbert was born on April 3, 1928 in Whatcom County, WA and passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2025.
June attended Whatcom County Schools and graduated from Ferndale High in 1946. For a time, she moved to CA where she met her first husband and gave birth to Cynthia Brightwell. After returning to Whatcom County, they were blessed to adopt Tina Brightwell.
She was baptized as a Latter Day Saint in her 20s, and was faithful throughout her life.
She married Fred Filbert in 1967, and they enjoyed 39 years of marriage until his passing in 2006. Fred and June loved to travel and took their trailer to Arizona as snowbirds for many years, up the Al-Can highway, and as far east as Mt. Rushmore.
June was an avid reader.  She loved needlepoint and sewing and made and donated many quilts and knitted caps. She framed various artworks as a business. She enjoyed working on her genealogy and accompanying Fred who loved being on the water canoeing or pleasure fishing.  She loved gardening and preserving what she grew. A great cook and baker, she baked pies for the Fisherman’s Cove restaurant.
Besides Fred, others who went before include her infant brother Richard, brother John and John’s wife June LaBounty, sister Adele VanDyk and her husband Jack, brother Robert LaBounty and his wife Margaret, brother Cliff’s wife Dolores, and June’s daughter Cynthia Brightwell.
She leaves behind her daughter Tina, brother Cliff LaBounty, many nieces and nephews, and her chosen granddaughter Karyn Ramirez who, with Mario Mendoza and their children Jorge, Daniel, and Analysia, brought her much joy.
A service will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
