Obituary

Jonathan David Urquhart was born March 17, 1967 in Bellingham, Washington. He died September 14, 2017 at age 50 in Dumaguete City, Philippines after suffering a brain aneurysm.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earlene and David Urquhart and his grandparents, Lillian and Robert MacIntyre Urquhart.

He leaves behind a wife, Loida Urquhart, and a son, Jacob Urquhart. He is also survived by his siblings: Di Huizinga (Bob); Barb O’Brine (Vern); Denise Adams (Steve); Don Urquhart (Renee Goselin); Connie Urquhart (Howard Hamme); as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a circle of loyal friends.

Jon grew up in Whatcom County. He loved the outdoors, seeking out the highest, scariest and most thrilling points from which to jump during his adventures–whether on his motorcycle, or while skiing, or just exploring his parents 25-acre property. He also loved baseball, golfing, and fishing. Some say, he didn’t just sip from the cup of life…he gulped!

Jon graduated from Ferndale High School in 1985 and parlayed his love of the outdoors by working in construction and landscaping. At age 30 he had a brain tumor that would change the course of his life, but the successful treatment of it allowed him to travel to the Philippines, where he met his future wife, Loida, who he married in 2007. His son, Jacob, would follow two years later. Jon was kind, funny, and charismatic. He was a captivating storyteller, a collector of treasures, and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. His stories will live on well beyond Jon’s time on earth.

A small ceremony will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date, service details are pending.
