Obituary
John (Dan) Robertson
John (Dan) Robertson, 87 of Ferndale, WA went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2012. At his side was his loving wife, Ruberta along with his children that gathered at the Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, WA.
John was a devoted husband of 58 years, committed father, loving grandfather and great grandfather, faithful follower of Christ and friend to all.
He was born August 21, 1924 in Leavenworth, WA. He bravely served as a sergeant in the United States Army in 19481949 in Kunsan, Korea. After marrying Ruberta in 1954, they moved to the western side of the state and eventually made their home in Ferndale, WA. John could do anything he set his mind to. He was the owner of Robertson Homes Building Company and then went on to start Lakeside Plumbing and Heating. He worked faithfully at these jobs for over 40 years. He was a hard worker and took pride in every project or job that he was asked to complete.
John loved hunting and fishing. He taught his sons and grandsons the skills and techniques of hunting for deer & elk. Until just a few years ago, John enjoyed the yearly hunting trip to Beaver Creek in Eastern W A for opening weekend of hunting season. He was blessed to take a fishing trip with his 3 sons in 2003 to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where they chartered a Fishing boat and caught a prized Dorado Swordfish. However, a boat ride on the Skagit River or on Puget Sound was a good choice to catch some local salmon.
John was father to 7 children and through sacrifice and commitment, he and Ruberta raised a beautiful family. The round table at the Robertson home was never empty and all were warmly welcomed. John enjoyed fun times together with the family and he especially loved the yearly camping trips with all the kids and grandkids. John loved to tell stories and could playa flawless game of Rook. He was a friend to everyone and he extended a helping hand to many in need on countless occasions.
John & Ruberta, along with many of their family are active members of the Whatcom New Life Assembly church in Ferndale.
John was preceded in death by his parents Leroy & Ruth Robertson and 5 siblings: Wilbur Robertson, whose wife Edith currently resides in Sacramento, CA. Ernie “Bud” Robertson, whose wife Shirley currently resides in Menifee Lake, CA. Edith (Rube) Carlson of Salem, Oregon. Joel “Joe” Robertson, whose wife Phyllis currently resides in Kenmore, W A & Arthur Robertson, of Leavenworth, WA.
John is survived by his wife Ruberta Robertson of Ferndale and 7 children: Larry (Maureen) Robertson of Lake Forest Park, WA, Kathy (Loren) Jackson of Bellingham, WA, Marsha (Les) Scevers of Ferndale, WA, Randy (Lori) Robertson of Bow, New Hampshire, Richard “Rick” (Kathy) Robertson of Lake Stevens, WA, Lynette (Gary) Maulin of Puyallup, WA and Teresa (Ted) Denessen of Ferndale, WA. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren (and 1 on the way).
John’s name means, “God is Gracious” and we remember him for being an example to us of the goodness and graciousness of our Father above. As a faithful and devote Christian, John gave his family and friends the greatest hope of the future … HEAVEN! His wishes would be that you would all cling to that same hope. He will be missed for his tender heart, strong handshake and the loving example that he set to us all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, W A or Whatcom New Life Assembly.
