Obituary
John Robert Notar, 71, passed away May 20, 2015. He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1962. He attended college in Oregon.
John was teacher, and taught at both Shuksan and Fairhaven Middle Schools for over 20 years.
He is survived by his brother Scott Notar of Blaine, close friend Bill Wicker of Bellingham, and his significant other Dana Benson of Bellingham. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Faye Notar.

I met John in 1956 when we were in 7th grade at Whatom. He was a patient and understanding guy – and our friendship continued at Bellingham High. I would see infrequently over these many years and he always had time to talk. I was glad he became a teacher because he could communicate his patience and consideration to his students – virtues much needed today. R7eNTHest in Peace John

So sad to hear of his passing. Mr. Notar was my 6th grade home room teacher at Fairhaven Middle School. He introduced me to novels like Where the Red Fern Grows and always had a reassuring smile. He was a teacher, but he was more than that. Somehow you could see the human side of the man behind the teacher. He was one of my favorites and will be missed.
