John Robert Goodman, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on August 8, 2014. Born in Fairhaven, WA on August 28, 1922 to Jennie and Samuel Goodman, the 6th of seven children who immigrated from Iceland. John graduated from Custer High School in 1941 and soon enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served three years in the South Pacific. After the war he gold mined in Alaska but he didn’t strike it rich until he met his future wife Dorothy Ellen Heider back here in Whatcom County! They were married in 1948 in Ferndale. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, children Jim Goodman, Nancy (Mark) Kane, Ron (Deneva) Goodman and Susie Marshall (Wes Payne) all of Whatcom County, his sister Alice of North Bend, grandfather to Jay, Zoy, Caleb, John, Nick, Travis, Crystal and great-granddaughter Beatrix. John had various occupations over the years from working at Darigold in Lynden to dairy farming, running a portable saw mill business and finally in their retirement helping Dorothy in her antique shop Little Western Antiques. In 1972 he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he was an active member of the Wiser Lake Congregation for the last forty years. John enjoyed sharing the good news of God’s Kingdom with others.

Farewell Tribute Information

A memorial service will be held at the Wiser Lake Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 892 W. Wiser Lake Rd., Ferndale, WA, Saturday, August 16th at 2 PM.
