Obituary
John I. Pitner, age 70, passed away in Bellingham, WA on February 4, 2022. He was born on April 19, 1951, to Richard and Dorothy Pitner in Seattle, WA.
John worked as a Master Painter. He could paint anything, and especially enjoyed painting ships in maritime settings. John also worked as a Horticulturalist and loved to garden.
John was fiercely loyal to the ones he loved. This, combined with his good hearted silliness and exuberant approach to life made him a wonderful father to his daughter Rachel, whom he cherished. Some of Rachel’s fondest memories are of fishing with her dad. The 4th of July was a highpoint of the year in the Pitner home. John also enjoyed relaxing on a Sunday drive and listening to good music. Both stubborn and intellectual, John taught Rachel to stand her ground and to have an inquisitive mind.
John is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Joe Pitner, Richard Pitner, Susan Doran and Shelia Burlison, stepbrothers Rick and Scott Sprague, and good friends George Detolo, and Harold aka Rabbit.
He is survived by his daughter Rachel L. Smith, siblings Denise Ankrem and Larry Sprague, nieces & nephews Mandy Pitner, Terri Pitner, Traci Pitner, Jesse Burlison, John Burlison, Cathy Doran, and Jimmy Doran.
There will be an open house visitation at Moles Farewell Tributes – Bayview Chapel at 2465 Lakeway Drive in Bellingham on Wednesday, February 16 from 10am to 4pm.

What a great line in an Obituary to sum up someone’s Character!!
I haven’t seen John for 35 years but he made a big impact on my young life during the few years that I was around him then. I’m very glad and thankful that I met and knew him.
