I met John and his family on a visit to Maple Falls in 1973, a year before I moved to Maple Falls. He was always smiling and had interesting conversations. I’ll never forget him, Rhodell, their mom and dad.
John was part of my childhood memories of Maple Falls in the 50s and 60s. He and my little brother to interrupt us girls in our idea of fun in those innocent days in the shadow of Mt. Baker. Cousins are a wonderful bunch of people to have in your life. They evoke wonderful memories.!
In junior high and high school I skied with John quite a bit. He always had an interesting take on life and how we lived it. He was also a part of the Mt. Baker HS band. He played trumpet in the back row, there I was tucked in with the sousaphones. Mr. Ford and John always had an interesting dialog going. I remember Gordon asking him about the lyrics in a song that he was listening to. “John, what does “Rock me baby, sock me baby, all night long” mean, exactly?” (Steppenwolf) Like we really knew at 14 years old. (-;
In later years I seldom saw him, though I often thought, I wonder what John’s up to?
