Obituary

John “Jack” Scott DeBord Jr., age 90, passed away in his Bellingham home on Friday, October 1st after a short illness. He was born in Wenatchee, WA December 16th,1930 to parents John Scott DeBord Sr. and Genevieve Gladys Fisher and was the third of five children. He was raised in and attended school in Ferndale, WA and joined the US Navy when he was 17. He met his wife, Katy, in Newport, WA in 1957, whom he married on June 14th, 1958. They raised their four children, Rusty, Deni, Donnie, and Jeff, in Bellingham, WA and had been married for 63 years.

Jack loved riding his Goldwing motorcycle and was an avid skier. He and Katy shared many trips together. He also enjoyed bowling and driving his Datsun 280Z with its personalized plate “Jack D”, which could often be seen in the first parking spot at the Mt. Baker Ski Lodge. He was hard-working and owned and operated DeBord Painters Co. with his father. In retirement, he was passionate about golfing, even getting a hole-in-one twice at the Sudden Valley Golf Course! The family enjoyed picnics, barbecues, and visiting extended family. He was proud to be able to see his four grandchildren, Greg, Zack, Rachel, and Nathan, grow up. His goofy, silly nature always made them and his two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and James, laugh! In addition to loving the family in his life, he also loved his dogs Flame and Rocky. His surviving family, including seven nieces and nephews (Donna, Dianna, Brenda, Hal, Norma, Ken, and Kelli), and their families, will always think fondly of memories from the many get-togethers and reunions of which he was a part.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Scott DeBord Sr. and Genevieve Gladys Fisher; four siblings, William Thomas, Donald Duane, Jean Louise, and Doris Marie; a nephew, Timothy Scott Hassain; and his son, Donald William. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Joyce Myers DeBord; three children, Russell Scott (Virginia), Alison Denise Hamil (Charles), and Jeffrey Alan DeBord; his grandchildren, Gregory Scott DeBord, Zachary Alan DeBord, Rachel Louise Roe and Nathan Lamar Roe; and his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Ann Sharp and James Gregory Scott DeBord.

All are welcome for the memorial service & burial to be held Friday, October 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA, followed by a gathering for all friends and family at the Ferndale Event Center. Flowers welcome.
