Obituary

Joan Pauline (Lawson) Brown was born in Bellingham, WA on January 15, 1944 to Andrew (Buddy) Lawson and Nettie M. Lawson. She grew up in Stanwood, WA and graduated from Twin City High School, now Stanwood High School in 1962. After high school she began working for First National Bank of Stanwood. Later, Joan moved to Seattle and spent 16 years working for Seattle-First National Bank in the Commercial Real Estate Lending department.

Joan moved to Phoenix, Arizona and was employed by APS Power Co. where she worked as a Budget/Project Cost Analyst until retiring. After retiring, Joan moved back to the Pacific Northwest which she had dearly missed and settled near Birch Bay, WA where she lived with her mother, Nettie Lawson.

Joan enjoyed gardening, traveling, having tea parties, baking and entertaining. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in her garden.

Joan is survived by her mother, Nettie M. Lawson of the family home, her brother David M. Lawson (Irene) of Custer, WA, her nieces Rachel (San Diego, CA), Amelia (Nashville, TN), and Andrea (Bellingham, WA), her nephew Jordan (Bellingham, WA), grand nephew Rufus, grand niece Hazel, and other cousins.

The family would especially like to thank Hermine Fagan, Janice Sabo, Visiting Angels, and Whatcom Hospice for all their assistance and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in Joan’s name be made to Whatcom Hospice or a charity of your choice.

    Joan was a great classmate. Had the opportunity to work with Jian at Bank if Stanwood for several years. Jian was very professional and well respected in banking who went on to have a successful career with SeaFurst in Seattle. Always kind with a gentle smile. Will be missed by many but her Karma will endure

  2. Aunt Nettie and Dave and family,
    So sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. She always was the glue in this family, letting us know what was going on with the Larsen side of the family. We’ll miss her sweet disposition and welcoming smile.
    You are in our thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace, free of all pain.

    Love, Helen and Larry

    My condolences on Joan’s passing, she was a beautiful person that I truly enjoyed working with for many years here in Arizona. Her smile would always light up the room when she entered, her professionalism and dedication was outstanding, yet her friendship was something I was blessed to have. May God Bless all of you, I know he has called an angel named Joan home to continue to watch over all of those who had the pleasure of calling her family and or a friend.

  4. Dear Aunt Nettie, David and family;It hardly seems possible. Just last week we had such a great phone visit. Now our dear Joan is on the other side with her Savior whom she adored – and no more pain. Joan was a dear cousin and took such great care of our last aunt – Nettie – both here in Arizona and after they moved back up to the land they loved. What an example of the Lord’s love and faithfulness.

    David, we trust you and your family will sense the comfort that only comes from the Lord. Thanks for being there for your mom. Aunt Nettie, you take care and soon we’ll all be reunited.

    Our love to you;
    Sel & Jan Larsen
