Obituary
Jerry Lee Birdsey, 84 of Custer, WA, left to be with his Lord, January 17, 2020. Jerry was born in Bellingham to Thelma & Claude (Bud) Birdsey. He was predeceased by his parents Thelma, Bud, and stepfather Herb Hanson, wife Lee, who’s love made his life complete, his son Jerry Leroy Birdsey, sisters Marilyn Arlene Pauline & Lorelei, Brothers Bill Birdsey, Frank, Chuck, and Dale Hanson.
Jerry is survived by daughters Tracy Burnside (Bret), Robyn Rhodes (Dennis), Kasey Bower (Earl), Leslie Henley (Warren), Bernice Brim (Steve) and Camron Elizabeth, sons Jim Gray (Jean), Jeff Gray (Lory), Tyler Bennett (Linda), Del Birdsey (Cindy), Ricki Birdsey (Michelle), Brother Bob (Ruby) and sisters Leona Allen (Earl), and Teri Edelbute, 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, along with those he welcomed into their home and heart.
As a pioneer of Skagit Speedway, he spent many great weekends racing. A man who never slowed down. He worked for Bectal Building Intalco, then went to work for Intalco as a millwright. After Jerry’s retirement his happiness was holding & loving his grandbabies. His family was always his main priority. Hugs given made those receiving feel like they were the most important person ever. He looked forward to golf days with Lee and Jack, his good buddies. Jerry belonged to the 4th Corner Elites Car Club, enjoying interaction with his many friends. At his request, in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to 4th Corners Project Santa Claus.
As we lay “No 1 GRPA” to rest, remember he would say with a wink and a smile “No difference between the grave and the rest room. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go.”
Jerry will be forever loved, remembered, and missed.

My deepest condolences to the Birdsey Family. I have known Uncle Jerry my entire life and I am saddened by his passing. My dad Larry E Neil and Jerry were great friends and I know that they are in Heaven talking about old cars. R.I.P Uncle Jerry.

To the family of “Uncle” Jerry Birdsey,
On behalf of my family I express my sincere condolences at the loss of your loved one. It’s ironic that the last time I saw him was at the Pumpkin Run of the Fourth Corner Elites in 2017 when we I came and attended the car show with my brother Rich. Even more so now, that I’m back in Bellingham this past week and half to be with Rich and family as he came home to be under hospice care. To then have my brother Rich actually end up passing at home on the same day; Friday, January 17; as Jerry. Wow, how amazing is that?! That they both walked into heaven on the same day!
Uncle Jerry was a lifelong friend of our families. We grew up around his family and enjoyed so many memories and fun times. He was a kind hearted person that always made you feel welcomed and loved.
I pray that each of you’ll be comforted and blessed with a feeling of peace. May you be assured that he’s reunited with those who’ve passed on before and that this separation is but just a brief moment in time. Until that time when you’ll be together again someday.
With much love and respect,
Larry and Angela Neil

Jerrry Birdsey to me was my hero. He drove the number 10 at Skagit Speedway and my father Hugh Cory knew him. Every and I mean Every Friday night my dad would load the station wagon or the El Camino up with my sister’s and neighborhood kids and off we go to speedway. We waved our home made signs and cheered for #10. All his kids were these and those Friday night’s were among the best of my childhood. One time when my dad took me to the pits that Jerry took me for a lap around the track in the race car. That was in the 60’s and that little girl is now 65 and remember that night so vividly. I know he was a kind and generous man. Rest in Peace Jerry! You will never know how much you made my Friday night’s the best ever. Your #1 fan.
