Obituary

Jerome “Jerry” Toon, 80, of Whatcom County, WA went to be with the Lord on January 8th, 2021.

Jerry was born on May 25th, 1940 in Portland, OR to Willis Kenneth Toon and Laurette Matilda Toon (O’Neill). He grew up in Everett, WA, and after graduating from Everett High School, he enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed with the firefighting crash and rescue crew in Alameda, CA and faithfully served his country from 1957-1962.

Jerry married the love of his life, Judy Benadom, on September 1st, 1963. They raised their children in the greater Bellingham area, and, in 1970, Jerry graduated from Western Washington University.

Over the years, Jerry and Judy owned and operated several local businesses, including BB Lumber, Meridian Lumber, and Bakerview Spur Lumber. Jerry was known for his carpentry skills, love of classic vehicles, and his devotion to his Christian faith.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Toon.

He is survived by his wife Judy; children Todd (Michelle) Toon, Tracy (John) Weston, and Terene (Kim) Kleppe; eight grandchildren, Claire Ramos, Natalie Toon, Emma Toon, Zianna Weston, Edelia Weston, Corey (Aubrey) Kleppe, Fiona Dawson, and Micah Kleppe; and one great-grandchild, Malakai Kleppe.

  1. To Judy and Family; So sorry to hear of jerrys passing. He was a great guy and a wonderful neighbor back when we were neighbors on the Kelly Rd. He will be missed by everyone.

  2. I am so very sorry to hear of Uncle Jerry’s passing away.
    There has been a vast empty space in my heart each day.
    He was a great person and uncle, one of the best.
    His being gone is difficult for me right now to digest.
    But, if he were here right now, he would say,
    “Fill your heart up with His loving care,” and “We’ll be seeing ya real soon, okay?”
    We will all keep the good memories, love and laughter, and we know Uncle Jerry is in God’s loving hands and eternal care.

    My thoughts and prayers are and will always be with Aunt Judy, Todd, Tracy and Terene and their families and the rest of Uncle Jerry’s family and friends.
