  1. For many years Jeanne was the English Department’s librarian. From time to time she met with our faculty to update us on library services, and she was always warmly received by the department. On several occasions she helped me when I needed to locate resources pertaining to women writers of England’s Romantic period. I discovered through our conversations what a treasure she was. Two or three years ago I heard a presentation she gave of her recently published translation. The event was memorable for the unapologetic empathy Jeanne showed for her subject.
Jeanne was one of Western’s jewels. I am truly blessed to have known her.

I missed the obit & the memorial, so sad, I had worked with her at the library on many projects. I have a wonderful macrame dream catcher medallion with beads & feathers she had brought back from her trip to the Northwest Territories – Yellowknife, when she had chatted with me about her current adventure there & I had mentioned I had visited many many years ago, in 1970. I will miss her stories of travels and adventures.

Dr. Jeanne Armstrong, a survivor, a thriver, and a truth seeking scholar in academia, will be honored, fondly remembered, and bade farewell by colleagues, students and friends on Thursday, January 18, at 4 P.M. in the Solarium of Old Main on the Western Washington University campus.

I worked with Jeanne for many years. She will be missed by many of the students she touched. I know she was looking forward to a well-earned retirement and am sorry she won’t have the chance to enjoy it.
I won’t be able to attend the service due to a medical appointment, but my thoughts will be there.

  5. Rest in Peace Jeanne! You’ll be missed!
