Obituary

Jean Nattrass Peterson, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away on May 25, 2017 from complications relating to dementia. She had just celebrated her 92nd birthday four days prior, complete with chocolate ice cream and singing. Born to Bill and Laura (Starr) Nattrass on May 21, 1925 in Bellingham, WA, Jean was the oldest of four daughters. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1943 and married sweetheart Robert Peterson on Oct. 19, 1945.

Throughout her life, Jean was an active member of the Harborview Lion’s Club, Birchwood Presbyterian Church, bible study, local bowling leagues, and enjoyed playing golf and cards with friends. She loved spending her summers at the family cabin on Lummi Bay, and never passed up a reason to celebrate others.

Jean is predeceased by her husband Robert Peterson, her son Brian Peterson, and sisters Marian, Lois, and Lorraine. She is survived by her sons: Larry Peterson (wife Linda, son Benjamin), son Rick (son Justin, daughter Keisha), son Brad (wife Lisa, daughters Erin and Abby), daughter-in-law Vennesa Toland (son Kellan), and is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Memorials should be directed to Whatcom Hospice (2800 Douglas Ave., Bellingham 98225), Birchwood Presbyterian Church (400 Meadowbrook Ct., Bellingham 98225), or Harborview Lion’s Club (c/o Barbara Brandt, 3009 Hayward Dr. Bellingham 98226). A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Thursday, June 22 at 11:00 AM at Birchwood Presbyterian Church.
