Obituary

Janice Mardell Nordby, 79, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018 peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones. Janice was born on July 26, 1939, a daughter of the late Frank and Virginia Vanderyacht.

She graduated from Mount Baker High School. In April of 1957 she married Robert Edward Nordby Sr. Janice was a homemaker for many years. She began working outside the home as a cook at the Cedars Restaurant. She also worked a Sandie’s Dress Shop for a short time until she was hired on at the Ferndale Post Office. She worked as a Rural Route Carrier and retired in the early 90’s.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years in 2017, and her siblings, Nadine, Donny, and Lee. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her sisters, Jacquelyn McVey and Victoria Smiley; children, Luke (Penny) Nordby, Veronica (Kevin McLaren) Nordby, Robert Nordby, and JoAnn (Craig) Bruemmer; grandchildren, Joel (Tallie) Leppala, John (Jessica) Leppala, Anglie Nordby, Jessica Leppala, Kristine Nordby, and Zachery Nordby; great-grandchildren, Mason, Nash, Jackson and Jasper; and other beloved family members, Fleta, Candice, Cammile, Travis, Jasmine, Manny and Lily.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 17, at 12:00pm at Moles Greenacres (5700 NW Dr. Ferndale), followed by a graveside service at 1:00pm at Enterprise Cemetery. A reception will follow at Moles Greenacres.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Whatcom Hospice.

  1. As the days continue to pass, I hope you find comfort and support in the people that surround you and the wonderful memories you carry in your mind and in your heart. May the words of Psalm 34:18 “ Jehovah God is near to those that are broken at heart…” bring the entire family comfort and strength. Please accept my sincere condolences.
