Obituary

James Vernon Hawley, Jr., age 92 of Ferndale, WA, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, in Bellingham, WA.  He was born on October 5, 1929 to parents Leona and James V. Hawley, Sr. in Lynden, WA.  He grew up on Lummi Island and worked in the family business at Hawley’s Fishing Resort, and then owned and operated commercial reef netting boats while also working swing shifts at Mobil Oil Refinery.  He served honorably in the United States Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class.  Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Bonnie Jeanne; sons James Gregory Hawley, Mike (Cathy) Hawley, Jeff (Fiona) Hawley, and daughter Debi Hawley Spivak; grandchildren Rachel, Nathan, Steve, John, Kristen, Cassandra, Shanna, Amanda, and Brianna; as well as four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 19, 2021 at Greenacres Memorial Park Chapel – 5700 Northwest Dr. Ferndale, WA.

  1. I was very sad to hear of Jim’s passing. The Hawley family meant a lot to me growing up in Ferndale. Prayers to Bonnie and the rest of the family.
