I have no idea whom I am writing. Jim or James Mamac were good friends through thick and thin. If it wasn’t for him I would have never made it as far as I had in the restruaunt industry. He was a very patient and loving person. My GOD I can’t believe that he is gone. He used to call me “sis.” Now I know the truth and I feel devastated. I hope that I’m writing about the man that all knew well. Our song was “Dreams” by Heart…We were both going through tough times at that time. Question? Did he work for Denny’s in Blane? I can not express how badly I feel and especially for the last following generation. He will always be in my mind and heart as I’m sure he will be in others with love. Ona

My Sincere Condolences to the Ohana of Braddah Jimmerz. Met Jimmerz a long time ago when Alohaworld had gatherings around the country. This gathering was in Washington and Jimmerz was there cooking and playing music….That’s what he loved to do….Share the Aloha. I will always remember him for that…Braddah Jimmerz, Rest in Love….Aloha.

To the friends and family of Jimmerz, I am sad to hear of his passing. The best way I know to relate his kind and welcoming heart is to share his own words. This is the email I received from him the first time I showed up for Kanikapila 2.5 years ago:
“Aloha Toni..was nice to meet you tonite, and Welcome to the group. You know..I can relate to the soul needing to regenerate, by hearing this kind of music..i experience it all the time,it keeps me planted in my roots..it gets to be like air, if I go too long without it, i start to wither! let me say..that you are most welcome to come over and be with us, when we get together to jam! You want to learn to play..we can do that too! I am a Kona Boy..Born Kona, hawaii..Dad moved us to Oahu, when I was 2-3yrs.old..he came for work..moved all over, mainly downtown area..Dad worked at Halekulani Hotel till he Retired…Anyway..feel free to drop in when it’s kanikapila time.. usually 6p..is till whenevers…A Hui Hou..(till next time)Aloha JM”

…yes, A Hui Hou, Mr. Jimmerz. We will miss you so much.

The first thing to know about Jimmerz is the size of his heart. It was BIG-room for everyone. Maybe that’s what happened: Jimmerz heart finally filled up and God hit the reset button.I have been priveleged to have played with Jimmerz and HoAloha at many events and to have talked story with him on the road to see our music heroes at Slack Key and other performances. Previous Pakanini Bash at Yakima-early morning departure from Bellingham-hours ahead. I expected all to nap out but Jimmerz “observations” and one-liners kept us all laughing all the way. We got to Yakima-we were all tired from laughing for 3+ hours–except for Jimmerz. He was in his island zone. Jimmerz, Luwana and I played – about 8 hours, Jimmerz stayed “on-stage” for what it was, until some 11 hours later, Jimmerz reluctantly headed with us back to the hotel. His slogan “you can take the boy from the island but not the island from the boy” was never more true than that Saturday night in Yakima.
The second thing to know about James Mamac is that he governed his life by Aloha and Pono. His life stands as an example for all of us to follow; his aloha has touched all of us.
My life has been enriched by James Mamac; I am saddened he is gone– to play with Gabby and uncle Dennis and Peter, I know he has a chair at that kanikapila.
    So Adios Aloha my friend
We will listen for your voice
    And will hear you play
In the Music of the Rain
