Obituary
James R. Anable passed away on May 3, 2017, at Hospice House in Bellingham, WA. Jim was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September and kept his hopeful outlook until the end of his fight.
Jim always showed enormous love and support for his family and friends. He gave to many charities and every year he would buy out most of the Denny’s Christmas Auction to support his favorite bar and the efforts they made to help people in need. Among his joys in life were traveling and photography. Jim vacationed in Maui on a regular basis and made many friends throughout his years there and we know he will be greatly missed.
Jim graduated from Bellingham High School in 1960. He served in the US Air Force from 1960 to 1964, graduated from WWU in 1970, and worked for Arco, as a Senior Lab Technician until he retired in 1995. Jim was an active member of the ARCO/BP Retirees Club and The Alumni Association at Western Washington University.
Jim is survived by his three brothers: Dan Anable and wife Kay, Greg Anable and wife Kathy, and Mike Anable, along with his nieces Tracy Anable and Jennifer Anable, and grandniece Emily Morgan.
A casual summer afternoon memorial service will be held to honor Jim on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm, at Greenacres, 5700 Northwest Drive, Ferndale, WA.

Jim was easily one of my favorite regular customers who I got to know over my seven years with Denny’s as a bartender and manager. He was a kind, gentle and generous man.
I have several wonderful memories of Jim. One of my favorites was when he invited me to join him on a train ride to Seattle to have Sunday brunch and watch a Mariners game. Another of my favorites is when he’d return from his Maui trips with photo albums filled with pictures and I would look through them much to the chagrin of my supervisors who would’ve preferred I helped in other parts of the restaurant.
I can only hope that his legacy lives on. I know I will always look back at my interactions with Jim with much fondness. I will truly miss him.

Dear Family of Jim,Jim’s dedication and enjoyment of other people was evident in his leadership role with the Cherry Point Retirees’ Association, which is how we knew each other. I got to see a few of the beautiful Hawaii books of his photographs after some of his and Mike’s vacations. He was a very positive person and I am glad to have worked together with him and other club officers in club planning for a few years. Besides the monthly meetings and serving as secretary, Jim could be seen cheerfully grilling burgers at the annual ARCO and BP picnic dinners on behalf of the retirees’ club. I know that he did a lot for the community. We’ll also miss the humorous or interesting emails that he sent our way. He was a strong, giving and endearing person who will be greatly missed. Our sincere condolences to your family.

I will always remember Jim as a kind, supportive and caring person. His care for his brother Mike over many years is commendable. His love of visiting Maui, Hawaii never went away. He took many pictures of all parts of the Island’s beauty. He lived his life with enjoyment and has left us too soon.
