Obituary

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Jim passed away suddenly February 23rd due to an accident near his home. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa on July 24, 1950. He will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife Susan and their two children, Ali and Matt, his sister Judy Schmidt, brother Fred Schmidt and nieces & nephews. Jim was a good father and wonderful husband. He was our rock and we all turned to him for almost anything and everything. He and Susan were married for 37 years. Jim and family moved to Bellingham 14 years ago from Edmonds, WA. The whole family enjoyed the slower pace of Bellingham and all the great friends they have made. After graduating from PLU in 1972, Jim entered the field of social work and became a counselor in juvenile institutions for the State of Washington. He enjoyed a second career as a real estate appraiser and developed recognized expertise in appraising large condominium projects. At the time of his death, Jim was working as a Senior Systems Analyst for Providence Health and Services. He loved his job. He was analytical, careful and precise by nature and so enjoyed the trouble shooting, problem solving aspects of his work. Jim loved sports and seemed to always know almost every statistic in every sport. We will dearly miss his calm spirit, patient demeanor, dry sense of humor and wide range of knowledge on so many subjects. The steady and unwavering support of all those he loved will be cherished dearly.

    Susan and family,
I was fortunate to have crossed paths in my work with Jim. As a peer, he was very detail oriented and always looking to do the right thing.

My thoughts are with your family as we remember the good that Jim brought through his actions.

Jim, You will be missed! Your gentle spirit and thoughtfulness have touched my heart in many ways as well as your commitment to your family. Your dedication to work was incredible- precise and thorough, always wanting to do push yourself for a job well done. Thank you for sharing your time, commuting from Bellingham to Renton could not have been easy and I never heard you complain. Thank you for sharing your sense of humor, I have many fond memories of stories you shared and your deep jovial laugh was the best. To the family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. May you be encouraged by the lives Jim touched in such a positive way. Prayers of peace and strength for you.

  3. Susan, Ali and Matt, You are all in our thoughts at this most difficult time. We remember Jim’s humor, his kind spirit, but most of all his great love for you.

Jim was great to work with. I had the opportunity to work with him at both Everett, Spokane and the rural clinics outside of Spokane. I found him to be patient, detailed and respectful. He will be missed.

  5. Deaar Sue, we know that words cannot comfort the hurt in your heart, but we want you to know that we are thinking of you and your family. Please call on us if we can help in any way.
