Obituary
James Eugene “Gene” Dawes passed away on December 18, 2022, at the age of 92 at Crista Senior Living, in Shoreline, Washington. For the past several years, Gene had lived at Cristwood Retirement Park, which provided him with a comfortable home, easy company, and an “excellent meal” every evening. He would tell you that moving there was a good decision, and it made him feel like he was in his “comfort zone”. All the residents and staff would describe Gene as a “good guy”: so kind and polite. His family feels grateful that this was where he lived out his last days, in the best care possible.
In 1953, Gene married the love of his life, Donna. Together they enjoyed 56 years of marriage, raising 3 children, enjoying 5 grandchildren, spending time with extended family, going camping, rounds of golf, travel to faraway places, and the company of great friends.
Gene loved to drive, which made his career as a truck driver delivering ice cream for Darigold, and groceries for Associated Grocers so enjoyable. He was always looking for a new route, or way to get from here to there in hopes that he might see something remarkable that he could share with others. This optimistic outlook continued into his later years, as he was always looking on the bright side of each situation. His family is glad for having his graciousness, courtesy for others, and quirky, quick-witted comments as a model for how to approach life.
Please join the Dawes family as we remember a good life lived by a very “good guy”. Gene’s Memorial Service will be on Friday March 18, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. It will be held at the Greenacres Memorial Park Chapel – 5700 Northwest Dr. Ferndale, WA 98248.
Please share your memories of Gene in his online guestbook.

So many fun stories. Such a blessing to have him in your/our lives for so long. No matter how and when they are sent to be with their loved ones. Your dad has had an impact on us all. Best smile!
