Obituary

Irene Caroline (Gimbel) Salhus passed away August 7, 2017 in Bellingham at Whatcom Hospice House. She was 85, born on Nov. 21, 1931 in Hazelton, ND to John & Margaret Gimbel, and was one of 13 children. She married Robert Salhus on Aug. 19, 1950 in Bismarck, ND. She and Robert owned and operated several businesses over the years while raising their family. They moved from Rapid City, SD to Bellingham in 1972. Irene was a member of the Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed life, loved the beach and was always active, but most importantly, she loved big gatherings with her family.

Irene was preceded in death by Robert in 2007 and her son-in-law, Al Tieri in 2011. Survivors include one daughter, Marsha Tieri, grandsons Ian Tieri (Melissa), great grandsons Lucas & Elijah and Landon Tieri (Janna), great granddaughters Brinkley & Anistyn; three sons, Dennis Salhus (Sharon), grandsons Kipp Salhus (Melissa), great grandsons Cody & Casey and Tye Salhus; Lowell Salhus (Katie), grandsons Jesse Salhus, great grandson Branson and Jeremy Salhus (Jamie), great granddaughters Makenna & Aubrey; Kirby Salhus, grandchildren Clarissa Salhus, Stephen Salhus, Erica Salhus and great granddaughter Aaliyah; as well as many nieces and nephews.
