Obituary

Ida Louise Johnson, age 86, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 in Bellingham. She was born October 10, 1925 in Eureka Township, Ward County, North Dakota to John Carl and Eva (Bowen) Lade.

She married naval aviator, Jim Andrew Johnson and they left North Dakota in 1963 with their children to live in Fort St. John, BC on a farm and Ida began working for Simpson-Sears. In the early 70s, they moved to Abbotsford, BC where Ida continued working for Sears. Later they moved to White Rock and Ida opened her home and heart as a foster mother. In the late 70s, they moved to Birch Bay, WA where they built a home together. During this time, Ida was a bookkeeper for Pt. Roberts gas station.

In 1998, Ida moved to Blaine and was very active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine. She loved the Lord and made sure that all her children and grandchildren were baptized. At her apartment complex in Blaine, she became the go to person and helped everyone when needed. She was a very caring person and a friend to many.

3 years ago, Ida moved into Orchard Park Assisted Living. She tended a beautiful garden, and became good friends with both the residents and staff.

Ida was an excellent bowler and an avid crossword puzzle fan. She enjoyed playing the card game skip-bo, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and loved her gardens.

Ida was preceded in death by her 3 sisters and 4 brothers; and special friend Virgil York.

She is survived by her 5 children, Judith and her husband Byron, James and his wife Mitzi, Vicki, whose husband John died in 2007, Jerry and his wife Frances and Kevin and his wife Shirley; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, nephew (like a son) Rick and his wife Carolyn; numerous nieces and nephews, Esther Carlson, many relatives, and good friends Judy Walker, Millie and Rose Hetman. She loved being a Mom to so many. Ida was loved dearly by her family and friends, and she will be missed by all who knew her

The family is grateful to the staff at Orchard Park Assisted Living, for the loving care they provided.

Grandma you taught me so many good qualities and were so kind and loving. You also let me know it straight when I was going astray. I love you and all the great memories I will cherish. There is part of you in me and for that I am truly blessed !! God is GREAT and say hello to everyone for me !!

  2. A friend with Vicky from the time she moved to Fort St. John,…. Jim and Ida made me feel like I belonged, or at least was related to the Johnson family…going as far as taking me with them to North Dakota one Christmas. That must have been quite job, an extra teenager in a car for miles and miles. Ida you were a lovely friend to my Mom and I so appreciate the times I spent at your house.

  4. You will be greatly missed Grandma.I got my love of flowers from you. I give you and Mom credit for teaching me to be a good Mom. I have so many fond memories visiting you. I Love You.

  5. Where do I begin to share wonderful memories of Auntie Ida? Being part of the Lade family meant sharing holidays together, birthdays, weddings etc. I remember learning to drive at the farm on a funny looking car called a Studebaker. I remember sharing a love of shoes with her. She had small feet and I could wear those beautiful high heels of hers at a young age. Spending time in the summer at the farm will always be remembered. Jimmy, do you remember you and Charles chasing Judy and me with salamanders. I also remember the tasty Refrigerator cookies. Something very special to me was her taking part with her church in helping finance my Mission trip to Russia. She was always proud of her family and wished only the best for all of you. On Monday at the service, think of it as a celebration service to her life. Share memories, good and bad, laugh and cry with each other. Duane and I and our family will be with you in thought and prayer. God bless the memory of Auntie Ida.
