Obituary

On December 9, 2021 the world lost the most amazing man and soul, Hugh G. Locker.

90 years on this Earth Hugh gave all his heart to his family and those around him. For 65 of those years, he loved, raised, and nurtured a beautiful family with Barbara Locker. There’s so much family, we can’t keep count anymore and more come every year. Every game, every event we knew you’d be there to support us, and we’d always hear your voice from the stands. From a young age you taught us about manners, elbows off the table, yes please and no thank you. Through example you taught us how to love. What it meant to work hard and earn something. You were the toughest man in our lives, but you didn’t let that strength overshadow the importance of having a soft side. You are the foundation for all that we are. Your words and lessons will live on through generations of this family and you will continue to teach us lessons and we will pass those on.

We love you Gramps and will miss the heck out of you.

We would like to thank Hospice for their excellent care, nurse Chelsey, bath aid Lauren, and Home Instead care givers Shannon and Nolan. You are so appreciated by us all.

My name is Terry Smith. We lived next to the Lockers on Valley View Rd. approximately 55 years ago. Pat and I are the same age and so we became good friends and Pat, Mike, and I plus my brothers spent many a day playing baseball or football in the cow pasture between our two homes. John and Scott were very young then. In those days the neighborhood kids were one big family. If the neighbor kids happen to be at your house around lunch or dinner time you just fed them along with your own. Times were certainly different then. After all these years I still remember that Hugh and Barb were kind people and certainly were kind to us. I can’t remember what Hugh looked like, but I remember he was a strong but kind man. I hope that some day someone might be able to say the same about me. Being kind to others matters, it matters to me.

  2. To the Locker boys

I am so very sorry for your loss. Your dad was a pretty great guy. He and your mother’s legacy continues through you four and your families. This is not only your loss, but the community’s as well.

  3. My wife & I share our condolences for your loss. Hugh served with my dad Norm Robertson on the Ferndale School Board for years, and my dad thought very highly of Hugh. I still perk up when Hugh’s name is mentioned, as I connect him to the great things that happened in our Ferndale Schools community. May those great memories of Hugh linger and sustain you over the years ahead.

  4. Happy for his wonderful long life. And especially for the JOY his children and grandchildren gave him through their activities. Take Care Locker family. Joey and Del McAlpine

My heart goes out to you, Locker family, as you walk this rough road. As a young teacher, coach and then administrator in the Ferndale School District I will always remember his encouragement and the trust he placed in me. He was a great example for all young men to emulate. Well done Hugh, well done.
