Fjortoft, Norway

Hertha Margrethe Knutsen, 96, of Bellingham, WA passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013. She was born in Fjortoft, Norway to Henrik and Marie Otterlei and moved to this country at the age of six.

Hertha graduated from Meridian High School and attended Whatcom Normal School, now WWU. She married Irving Knutsen, her husband of 58 years, and together they raised their four children. She was a long time member of Central Lutheran Church.

Hertha was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her brothers, Hank and Bill Otterlei; her daughter, Virgie Hartford; her son, Rick Knutsen; and son-in-law, Richard Schwartz.

She is survived by daughters Karolyn Schwartz and Marci Scott; son-in-law, Harold Scott; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hertha was an amazing person- a gem to treasure and emulate!

Farewell Tribute Information

A celebration of her life will be held at Central Lutheran Church, 925 Forest St. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 1:00pm. Donations Information

    We love you GG! Joe and our family didn’t get to see you very often, but we have some wonderful memories of our trip to Bellingham 2 years ago and the kids loved getting to see the fireworks from her deck! Our love to you. Joe Hartford and family

  3. I loved you alway7s, the memories we shared , the fun times we had , the sad times too. Hope the rest of the family joined you , to greet you on the other side , you made them all wait long enough. Most of all you will truly be missed , you got the best Christmas present of all , you got to catch the last train out ( Heaven Bound) .There will always be a place in my heart , just for you.
